As I am a passionate (cruise) traveler I am a member of several different travel sites. The concern I have is that fellow travellers are ranting on these sites about cruise lines not refunding money promptly if a cruise is rescheduled because of the pandemic. And, when I say promptly, I mean the same day it was booked or possibly even the same week.
I dont say this to upset anyone but, if you are going to book a cruise during a pandemic, you have to expect that the cruise may be delayed as there is no way to definitively tell when the pandemic will be over. How could the cruiselines possibly know?
My suggestion is if you are booking because you have found a pretty great deal, and the cruiselines do have some awesome deals right now, make sure you read their cancellation policy fine print and that you have the flexibility of rebooking if possible in case your specific cruise date should get cancelled or rescheduled because of the pandemic.
The cruiselines are trying to stay afloat (no pun intended) with new bookings as they are losing several million dollars (possibly billions) per day because of the pandemic. If they refunded all the money all at once (which wouldn’t even be possible), they would all go belly up and noone would be cruising.
With that in mind and a little patience and understanding we will one day all be cruising once again and this will be behind us.
Please feel free to share any positive suggestions you may have for our frustrated travellers. I want to change this into a positive as negativity is too stressful for us all and being in a pandemic is stressful enough.
Safe future travels to all!
